I am a 1986 graduate of ECSU, the first graduate to receive a degree in Middle Grades Education. I also hold a master's degree in middle grades education from ECU and an education specialist degree (Ed.S) from The George Washington University.
I became a member of Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church when I was about 6 years old through baptism. Rev. J.R.R. McRay was the pastor. As a child, I was a member of the junior choir and the sunshine band. I loved church then because I was raised to believe that pleasing God was the right thing to do and no matter who doesn't love you or believe you nor in you, that God does. That lesson has stayed with me through adulthood.
I am divorced and have one daughter who is aspiring to become a doctor. We are both natives of Elizabeth City, NC. She is the apple of my eye and I am so blessed to have her. She is a bit hardheaded at times, (smile) but she is still my little princess and I wish the best for her.
I pray each day to be a better person "today than I was yesterday." Making a difference, being an inspiration to someone is a constant goal of mine. What a wonderful world this would be if we all embraced that desire.
